When Click Here Digital started in 1993, dealers moved from the Yellow Pages to websites, from websites to search, from search to social, and now from search to AI. Through every one of those shifts, one mistake has stayed the same.
Most agencies manage the advertising and stop there. They report impressions, clicks and leads, send a monthly PDF, and call it done.
A general manager doesn't sell clicks. A GM sells cars. Between the money that a store spends and the car that leaves the lot, there are six links. We call them the Full Supply Chain. If any one of those links breaks, the whole chain breaks.
Budget. Everything starts here: how much you invest, and how you manage the entire budget across every source, including the vendors we don't run.
Traffic. The right shoppers, in your market, looking at your inventory.
Leads. Forms, calls, chats and showroom visits. Generating leads is the job of the media.
Leads set. The appointment, made in your CRM by your people.
Leads shown. The customer actually walks in.
Sales. The outcome every other link exists to produce.
Everything after the click is harder to see. Ad platforms report clicks, and websites report leads. Appointments set, appointments shown and cars sold live in the store's CRM, and most agencies never look there.
That's the gap. An agency can deliver a thousand leads, and if the store doesn't set and show them, the chain breaks. The agency's report still looks great. The GM's sales board doesn't.
Here's a simple illustration. Take $10,000 at about $2 a click, with 3% of visitors becoming leads.
Link | Store A | Store B |
|---|---|---|
Budget | $10,000 | $10,000 |
Traffic | 5,000 visits | 5,000 visits |
Leads (3%) | 150 | 150 |
Leads set | 53 (35%) | 36 (24%) |
Leads shown | 32 (60%) | 18 (50%) |
Cars sold | 19 | 11 |
Same budget, same traffic, same leads. Store B sells 8 fewer cars, and the difference has nothing to do with the advertising. It's two links inside the store.
Half of the supply chain sits outside the ad platforms. The budget is a business decision. Set and show happens in your CRM, with your people and your website tools. An agency that only knows Google can't help you there.
That's why we work inside the systems dealers use every day: CRMs like eLeads, VinSolutions, DriveCentric and CDK, and website platforms like Dealer.com, DealerOn and Dealer Inspire. We spend as much time on how leads are handled as on how they're generated.
Have you seen my whole media plan, or only the part you manage?
What is my cost per appointment shown, not just cost per lead?
What's my set rate by lead source?
Which channel's leads set and show at the highest rate?
If you could change one thing at my store that isn't advertising, what would it be?
Can you see my CRM? If not, how do you know your leads sell cars?
If your agency can't answer these, it's managing your advertising. It isn't managing your supply chain.
